Desai Among 13 Finalists Chosen On ‘American Idol’
LOS ANGELES (AP) — North Carolina’s Anoop Desai is among the top 13 finalists – yes, 13 – selected on “American Idol.”
After Thursday’s wild card round, the judges picked Desai and three other finalists: Jasmine Murray, Megan Corkrey, and Matt Giraud.
The judges called Giraud and Desai forward, then said Giraud was moving on as the 12th finalist. As Desai tried to leave the stage, judge Simon Cowell announced that a 13th finalist had been added at the last moment, leaving room for Desai.
Desai is a graduate of the University of North Carolina. After he sang “My Prerogative,” he asked for a chance to speak, then said he knew this was a difficult day at UNC because it was one year ago Thursday that UNC student body president Eve Carson was shot to death.
“It’s been a tough day, we’re all thinking of Eve and I love you, Chapel Hill,” Desai said.
