‘Witch Mountain’ Races To Top Spot At Box Office
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Disney’s “Race to Witch Mountain” has taken first place at the box office.
The PG-rated sci-fi flick beat out expectations, taking in $25 million in ticket sales. It raced past the superhero epic “Watchmen,” which earned about $18 million in its second week — down nearly 70 percent from last weekend’s more than $55 million debut. Warner Bros. says that’s “very common with higher profile, highly anticipated movies.”
In No. 3 was the Universal horror remake “The Last House on the Left,” with nearly $15 million in sales. 20th Century Fox’s thriller “Taken” remained at No. 4 with about $7 million in its seventh weekend in theaters.
Rounding out the top 5 is “Tyler Perry’s Madea Goes to Jail,” which earned $5 million.
