UNC, Chapel Hill To Welcome Home Anoop Desai

Chapel Hill native, Anoop Desai is coming back home after appearing on the top rated reality TV show, American Idol.

On Sunday, May 3, Anoop will greet fans at Robert’s at the Franklin Hotel, 311 West Franklin Street, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The public is invited to Robert’s to see Anoop.

UNC and the town of Chapel Hill will declare May 4 as Anoop Day and have a scheduled packed with activities to welcome home the singer.

A reception, hosted by the General Alumni Association, will be held on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Carolina Club on the UNC campus. Scheduled to attend are Chancellor Holden Thorp, Anoop and his family.

GAA plans to share a video montage before Anoop addresses the crowd. The event is open to the public.

After the reception Anoop will be at Chapel Hill Town Hall where Mayor Kevin Foy and the Chapel Hill Town Council will present a proclamation to Desai, declaring the day as Anoop Day and giving Anoop the key to the city.

Town officials add that buttons as well as posters, congratulating Anoop have been produced by the visitors bureau and will be provided to fans and businesses free of charge.

“These are free and we want all businesses to display these posters and wear the buttons,” said Laurie Paolicelli, director of the Visitors Bureau.  We encourage residents and business owners to call or stop by for buttons and posters.  (The Visitors Bureau is located at 501 W. Anoop deserves everything good that happens to him Miss him on idol. He always sees his glass half full and thats what I like about him. A true inspiration to indian youths around the world. Awaiting to buy his album. Wish I could be in Chapel Hill to meet him.
