Anoop Desai Greets Fans In Chapel Hill

CHAPEl HILL, N.C. (AP)– “American Idol” finalist Anoop Desai will meet with fans this weekend in his hometown of Chapel Hill.

Desai met fans from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Franklin Hotel. And the town and UNC-Chapel Hill have declared Monday “Anoop Day.”

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that a reception will be held Monday evening at the Carolina Club on campus. After that, Desai will go to Town Hall, where he will receive a key to the city.

The 22-year-old Desai was voted off “American Idol” on April 22. He had gotten mixed reviews for his rendition of Donna Summer’s “Dim All the Lights” during the show’s “Disco Week.”

Desai, a graduate student, has said he plans to leave UNC to pursue a music career.
