Portion Of N.C. 540 To Be Closed For Filming Of ‘Main Street’

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A portion of N.C. 540 between Davis Drive and N.C. 55 will be closed between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. for filming of the movie “Main Street.”

A part of a central North Carolina highway will be closed for the filming of the movie “Main Street,” which stars Colin Firth and Ellen Burstyn.

The state Transportation Department will close N.C. 540 in Wake County between Davis Drive and N.C. 55 from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. beginning Monday and continuing through Friday. In addition, one lane of eastbound N.C. 540 may be closed during the day.

“Main Street” is based on playwright and screenwriter Horton Foote’s last screenplay about an economically struggling tobacco town. Its residents must decide what to do when a stranger, played by Firth, offers to help the town by using abandoned tobacco warehouses to store hazardous waste.

Most of the movie has been filmed in Durham.
