Taylor Hicks Talks About Grease, New Album
American Idol Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks is set to take the stage as Teen Angel in Broadway’s GREASE as the musical makes its way to Durham.
Taylor Hicks beat out North Carolina’s own Kellie Pickler and Chris Daughtry to win the singing competition.
Taylor stopped by NBC17 to talk about his role and about his new album “The Distance” which was released in March. Scroll down to see the full interview.
“I get to play a little harmonica and add a little R&B style to it, which is fun,” Hicks said about performing the song “Beauty School Dropout”.
GREASE was nominated for 2008 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical and was Time Magazine’s 2007 pick for #1 musical of the year.
The stage at Durham’s Performing Arts Center will be filled with poodle skirts, Pink Ladies, and T-birds and of course all of your favorite tunes.
The show will open October 6 and run until October 11. Ticket prices range from $25 to $70.

FABULOUS! You are so right Evelyn. Taylor is an Entertainment Package. People wonder why he gets so much publicity for his short stent in this musical…Go see Grease and you will see why. The anticipation of his arrival and then seeing descending ice cream cone makes the audience come alive. He certainly does not disappoint. He is a great addition to this show.
Yes, he is very handsome. However, he looks different from different angles. If you see him from his right profile, he’s extremely handsome. His left profile is almost as good as his right. 3/4 right shot, very handsome. Left 3/4, almost as good. Camera angle upward, straight in the face, unsmiling, incredibly gorgeous. Straight in the face, smiling, not as gorgeous (but he has beautiful teeth and dimples). When he’s at his most slender — thud. When he’s gained ten more pounds he’s both cute and handsome. When he bloats up more, his face becomes round, he very cute but less handsome. Having said all of this, he’s still the most handsome Idol ever and the most talented performer.
A 5th season winner of American Idol. I saw his audition, he passed the audition with the approval of judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, but not Simon Cowell, who said that Hicks would never make it to the final round.
