Inside Look Of Rap Attack Monster Truck

100122_rap_attackThe smell of gasoline and diesel in the air, loud engines roaring in the background, and junk cars smashing into a flat sheet of metal…I bet you can already tell by that description that the Monster Jam Truck show is in town.

These massive 12 feet tall, 10,000 pound machines will be soaring through the air at the RBC Center in Raleigh on January 22 and 23.

I was given the opportunity to go to the RBC Center prior to Friday night’s show to see what it takes to transform the arena into an indoor dirt obstacle course. It was amazing to see tractors pushing in heaps of dirt to create the hills these trucks would later soar over. And crew members were painting junk cars yellow and lining them up in a row for these trucks to run over.

Driver of the Rap Attack, Dave Rappach, came out onto the track to meet me for an interview. He owns and operates the truck and he says putting the truck together was years of hard work. And can you believe each one of those gigantic tires costs like two grand! But for Dave, it’s all worth it. He says the best part of driving the truck is seeing the look and excitement in kids’ eyes. Scroll down to see the raw interview.

Dave gave me an inside look at his truck and boy, it’s an obstacle course just trying to get in there!

Here are the specifications on these trucks:

• They’re about 12 feet tall and about 12 feet wide

• Tires are 66 inches tall

• Trucks weigh a minimum of 10,000 pounds

• Monster trucks generate 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower

• Capable of speeds of up to 100 miles per hour

• They can fly up to 125 to 130 feet (a distance greater than 14 cars side by side) and up to 35 in the air.

Catch the Rap Attack, Grave Digger, and Spiderman while they’re at the RBC Center. There are three shows this weekend: January 22 at 7:30 p.m. and January 23 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
